About Us

Seaway Academy is a major training provider for the Offshore Oil and Gas Industry. Our Head Office and Training Center is located in Khon Kaen, Thailand. Canadian office is located in Halifax, Canada.

Our training philosophy:  At Seaway Academy our goal is for the student to accomplish the highest learning experience possible.  In order to achieve this we deliver comprehensive, interesting and practical training that is relevant and closely related to the work environment.

Nichapha Wright (ณิชาภา ไรท์) / Managing Director - Nicha manages all business related to Thai operations and finance, and is the main point of contact for both English and Thai students.

Captain David Wright / Founder / Managing Director  / Training - Canadian Master Mariner and an STCW Certified Instructor and Examiner with Multiple Maritime Authorities. Additionally, a certified Nautical Safety Inspector / Auditor, as well as a College graduate of both Business and Education.

Lectured for six years at the Nova Scotia Nautical Institute, Canada, delivering Ship Stability and several other courses related to Marine Officer Certification; also taught MODU Comprehensive Stability globally over a four year period as the Marine Training Supervisor with Transocean Offshore Drilling in their training centers throughout the world. Author and publisher of "Deckhand Training Manual for Offshore Oilfield Vessels" (ISBN 978-6164135253) and "MODU Stability & Management" (ISBN 978-6164135260).

Maritime career began on foreign going oil tankers, bulk carriers and deep sea towing before moving into the Offshore Oil Industry. Worked as Master on several offshore supply vessels (AHTS & PSV) throughout the world and as Master on Drill Ships and Jack-up Oil Rigs. MODU experience also included working as a C/O on a Semi-submersible oil rig. 17+ years’ experience as Master on various types of vessels.

Captain Chris Baker / Lead Trainer - Offshore Installation Manager and Marine Operations of Self Elevating Platforms.

 

Certified Master Mariner having worked as Master/OIM on drill ships and semi-submersible oil rigs, as well as on AHTS throughout the World. Oil Rig experience also includes working as Barge Master on Jack up rigs and as an Independent Rig Mover and Marine Warranty Surveyor; having completed hundreds of rig moves on behalf of Ensco, Northern Offshore, Seadrill, Shelf Drilling, and other Oil and Gas Majors.

Captain Blaise MacNeill / Lead Trainer - Comprehensive Stability and Ballast Control Operator.

 

BA / Economics and Certified Master Mariner, having worked for thirty years in the marine industry in a variety of capacities, primarily in the oil and gas sector where he served as Master on drill ships, semi-submersibles, AHTS and seismic vessels worldwide. Additionally, a licensed college Instructor, taught for five years at the Nova Scotia Nautical Institute, Canada, delivering ship’s stability, navigation, meteorology, GED mathematics and practical seamanship.

Captain Richard Luck / Marketing Manager - Canadian Master Mariner with extensive experience in the Offshore Oil and Gas Industry in Marketing and as a Ship’s Captain.

Online training - Comprehensive Stability for Ballast Control Operator (BCO) - (Basic Theory and Applied Stability / formally Stability 2).

Course to be completed as the five year re-certification process for a BCO and for any individual who has had a lapse of service of two years as an active BCO to be retrained utilizing this course prior to being re-employed as a BCO.

​

Online training for MODU Stability - "Comprehensive Stability" - for oil rig crew required to attend Stability Training for OIM, Barge Supervisor, or Ballast Control Operator. By completing our free online training students will be prepared to attend their scheduled course. This is also an excellent course to be utilized as a periodic self-study refresher.

For students attending our training courses and utilizing our book "MODU Stability & Management", you will have the advantage of accessing the online training to review calculations outside of classroom time, in the evenings in your hotel room.
